PERMIT#:M-1996-060
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE:March 15,2017
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine site monitoring inspection conducted by DRMS at the Firestien Pit site. The inspection was conducted
by Eric Scott of DRMS. DRMS travelled to the site with Mark Johnson of Bestway Concrete at approximately 1300. The
site entrance is located off the west side of 83`d Ave just south of where it intersects County Road 64(also known as"O"
Street). The site is WNW of the Town of Greeley in Weld County.
DRMS toured the site with the Mr. Johnson. Mining activity at the site has ended with cement production and sales of
stockpiled material continuing near the site entrance from 83`d Ave. Reclamation is progressing across the remainder of
the site. The exposed groundwater areas located in the south-central part of the permit have been almost entirely
backfilled. The southwest area of the permit has been successfully reclaimed as a fish-farm and is well vegetated, and the
western portion of the permit has been backfilled and is being utilized as cropland.
Some shoreline maintenance will likely be required for the water bodies located in the northwest corner of the permit, and
all remaining exposed water bodies will need to be included in an approved permanent augmentation plan before the
permit can be released by DRMS. Earth berms located along the south boundary of the permit between the river and
active site areas will need to be removed prior to release.
Gas and oil pipeline activity was observed during this investigation. The permittee should submit a technical revision to
the final reclamation plan to document the final locations of all gas and oil facilities located within the permit. It was also
noted that the mine identification sign was missing and will need to be replaced by the corrective action due date stated on
the first page of this report.
No other issues were noted during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Mark Johnson
Bestway Concrete Company
301 Centennial Dr.
Milliken,CO 80543
