4.2 Dryland Pasture <br />Revegetation evaluation for Dryland Pasture consisted of monitoring the 2014 (Year 2) unit. The <br />2014 Dryland Pasture unit comprised 2.3 acres. The Old Peabody Sage Reference Area was also <br />evaluated to provide a performance comparison. <br />2014 Unit (Year 21: <br />Sampling on the 2014 Dryland Pasture unit consisted of systematic distribution of 5 ground cover <br />transects. A total of 6 plant species were encountered within the 2014 Dryland Pasture unit evaluated in <br />2016 (Table 2). Ground cover in the 2014 Dryland Pasture unit (Chart 1 and Table 2) consisted of <br />33.60% live vegetation, 0.20% rock, 27.60% litter, and bare ground exposure of 38.60%. Desirable <br />perennial cover across the unit averaged 33.40%, with annual and biennial cover averaging 0.20% <br />absolute cover. Noxious weeds cover was 0.00 % absolute cover. Dominant taxa were crested <br />wheatgrass (Agropyron cristatum) and Russian wildrye (Eiymus junceus) with 26.20% and 6.00% <br />average cover, respectively. <br />Total production in the 2014 Dryland Pasture unit consisted of 458.2 lbs/ac, while perennial <br />production consisted of 444.6 lbs/ac (Table 3, Chart 3). The relative forage quality based on production <br />was 97.0% (Table 4). <br />Old Peabody Saae Reference Area: <br />Sampling on the Old Peabody Sage Reference Area consisted of systematic distribution of 30 ground <br />cover transects. A total of 24 plant species were encountered within the Old Peabody Sage Reference <br />Area evaluated in 2016 (Table 2). Ground cover in the Old Peabody Sage Reference Area (Table 2 and <br />Charts 1 and 2) consisted of 27.87% live vegetation, 20.87% rock, 17.93% litter, and bare ground <br />exposure of 33.33%. Desirable perennial cover across the unit averaged 27.13%, with annual and <br />biennial cover averaging 0.73% absolute cover. Noxious weeds cover was 0.00 % absolute cover. <br />Dominant taxa were blue grama (Bouteioua gracilis), broom snakeweed (Gutierrezia sarothrae), and <br />galleta (Hi/aria jamesii) with 6.50%, 5.63%, and 4.23% average cover, respectively. <br />Total production in the 2016 Old Peabody Sage Reference Area consisted of 411.3 lbs/ac, while <br />perennial production consisted of 396.0 lbs/ac (Table 3, Chart 3). <br />9 <br />
