Introduction
The Operator, High Speed Mining, LLC, is applying for a 112 Construction Materials Reclamation
Permit with the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety. The Fairplay Au Pit will be
a gold (primary commodity) and gravel (secondary commodity) mine located less than two miles
northwest of Fairplay, CO along CO Highway 9 (CO 9) immediately adjacent to the Middle Fork of
the South Platte River in Park County. The site is currently permitted as a Limited Impact mine
under an 1 l Oc permit with the DRMS M-1991-037. Large deposits of Upper Pleistocene river
alluvium derived from glacial till and debris dominate the Fairplay valley and covers the underlying
bedrock in varying thicknesses. These deposits and reworking of approximately 1860's era
hydraulicking tailings will serve as the source of aggregate and placer gold mined here. Most of the
deposits along the Middle Fork of the South Platte River in South Park were mined for gold in the
latter half of the 19th century by hydraulicking and a large dredge. This left behind large piles of
washed rock. These piles will be the primary source of sand and gravel for the operation — the
secondary mined commodity onsite. The mine will be on 41.4 acres of land located in Section 32 &
33, Township 9S, Range R77W of the 6`h P.M. in Park County at an approximate elevation of
10,300' feet. The site is accessed from State Highway 9 (CO 9) via US 285. Its location can be seen
in Exhibit B.
Mining will take place on 30.7 acres of the 41.4 acre permit area. The 30.7 acre area is the affected
area, and will be delineated as such on site.
The permittee and operator for this site is High Speed Mining, L.L.C. The landowners are High
Speed Mining, LLC and High Speed Aggregate, LLC.
The site will be reclaimed to dry rangeland following mining. All maps are found in Appendix 3.
Fairplay Ait Pit March 201 .7 A- I , GnXlAwkUand AaocfatmPLLc
