COLORADO <br />Division of Reclamation, <br />Mining and Safety <br />Department of Natural Resources <br />1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 <br />Denver, CO 80203 <br />February 23, 2017 <br />Natural Resources Conservation Service <br />Durango Service Center <br />31 Suttle Street <br />Durango, CO 81303-7911 <br />Re: King Coal Mine (Permit No. C-1981-035) <br />Permit Renewal Application No. 7 (RN -7) <br />Dear Sir or Madam: <br />The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, <br />Article 33, Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on February 20, 2017, <br />an application to renew an existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the King Coal Mine <br />was considered complete for the purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in <br />the Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate from this date of filing. <br />The applicant, GCC Energy, LLC, proposes to continue underground coal mining operations on land <br />located approximately six miles southwest of Hesperus, Colorado. There are no proposed revisions <br />to the approved mining and reclamation plan, nor is there any proposed surface disturbance outside <br />of the currently approved disturbance area. The permit area is further described as follows: <br />Portions of Sections 5, 6, 7 and 8, Township 34 North, Range 11 West; portions of Sections 28, 29, <br />31 and 32, Township 35 North, Range 11 West; and portions of Sections 35 and 36, Township 35 <br />North, Range 12 West; New Mexico Principal Meridian. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on the following USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle <br />map(s): Thompson Park, Hesperus, Mormon Reservoir, and Kline. <br />GCC has submitted an application to renew permit C-1981-035 for the King Coal Mine.
