Box 187
Craig, CO 8162b
Dear Bill:
I have reviewed your request to discontinue monitoring for deer and elk
on the Trapper Mine site. I agree that adequate data has been collected. I
also agree that resident populations of deer and elk have increased since
mining and reclamation activity commenced. However, I would caution you in
drawing conclusions about cause and effect of mining and wildlife population
increases. Deer and elk numbers have grown substantially in the rest of
northwest Colorado in the past few years, too. The success at Trapper Mine is
because of the outstanding job in working to reclaim wildlife habitats. We
have no problems with your request because of this. Please contact me if you
need anything else.
Sincerely,
l .
Jim Morris
Wildlife Biologist
JM:cr
cc: David Berry, MLRD
- __ 416
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Hamlet J.
