Management of Permanent Reference Sites <br /> Since rangelands are subject to grazing use, it is necessary that permanent <br /> reference sites be protected from grazing prior to sampling. Protection of the <br /> sites is by forty-eight inch woven wire fencing. These structures adequately <br /> preclude use by domestic livestock prior to sampling. Once sampling is complete, <br /> panels of fencing are removed to allow access by livestock. This technique will <br /> insure that reference areas and post mine areas will receive similar exposure to <br /> domestic grazing use.
