A permanent
access road already exists for 6300 feet towards
the site.
Another 2500 feet of access road will be constructed
through this vegetation type. The Reclaimed
Pasture
Vegetation Type itself occupies 11.0 percent of the proposed permit area.
As identified on Table 32, Reclaimed Pasture Vegetation type, smooth brome (Bronlus inennis) and alfalfa
(Medicaeo sativa) dominate the community with 22.3% and 57.7% ground cover and 186.75 g/1112 and 230.46
g/1112 productivity, respectively. Other significant species include intermediate wheatgrass (Agrooyron
intermedium) and yellow sweetclover (Melilotus officinalis) with 8.5% and 1.2% ground cover, respectively.
Total herbaceous stratum variables average 30.90% ground cover by grass and 59.00% ground cover by forbs,
258.73 g/m2 (2,308 lbs/acre) production by grasses and 230.46 g/n12 (2,056 lbs/acre) production by (orbs. The
reclaimed pasture's overall variables are 89.90% vegetative cover and 489.19 g/m2 (4,364 lbs/acre) production.
The diversity index as calculated by Shannon et al. (1973) for the entire community gives a value of 0.4023.
Reclaimed Pasture Vegetation Type variables as presented above were determined from statistically adequate
sampling. Sample parameters for each variable, and the minimum sample size required for an adequate sample
are presented in Table 27, Summary of Statistical Information. A reference area already has been established for
this vegetation type under CYCC's Permit No. 79-177. It is shown as R2, Pasture Reference Area, on Map 18,
Premining Vegetation. Prior to surface mining, this area supported a pasture vegetation type. The reference area
•for this site was established in 1980 and will continue to be used to measure revegetation success on pastureland
by both CYCC and TCC. Responsibility for the protection and management of this reference area will continue
under CYCC and TCC as required by State and Federal regulations.
MR 97-154 2.04-57 Revised 10/02/97
