Rangeland/Wildlife Habitat
A number of areas at the sites will be reclaimed to a post -mining land use of rangeland/wildlife habitat. These areas
include the William Fork Strip Pit, Ponds 9-P2 and 9-P3, old shop, and 5A portal. Please note that the current
reclamation plan for the Williams Fork Strip Pit is presented in Exhibit 24. All areas being returned to
rangeland/wildlife habitat will have a 1,000 stem/acre woody plant density reclamation standard.
In reference to the 9-P2 and 9-P3 ponds, old shop and 5A portal area, Reference Area C, as shown on Map 20, will be
used to determine successful reclamation. The site will be deemed successfully reclaimed when measurement of
reclaimed herbaceous cover and production are at least 90 percent of the herbaceous cover and production for the
reference area with 90 percent statistical confidence.
If herbaceous cover and productivity on the revegetated area are determined to be less than the reference areas, a one -
tailed "t" test will be performed to determine if there is a statistically significant difference. Based on this test,
revegetation will be deemed successful when the calculated "t" is less than or equal to the "t" value from the one -
tailed "t" distribution table. The following equation, which is from page 22 of the DMG Vegetation Guidelines, will
be used to evaluate vegetation success.
Where: Q = 90% of the standard
x = Bond release block sample mean
S, = Standard error of the mean (s / fin)
s = Sample Standard deviation
n = Sample size
tc = Calculated t value
The species diversity standard will be met when at least four species make up 60% of the relative percent composition
in the reclaimed plant community and no single species will contribute more than 40% of the relative composition.
Field sampling will meet a statistical minimum of 90% confidence with 10% precision. If sample adequacy is not
achieved, the reverse null approach may be used to demonstrate revegetation success [Rule 4.15.11(2)(c)]. Adequacy
of sample size will be determined using the following formula ( CDMG 2005 revised rule, 4.15.11 (2)(a)):
Nm=rS'
<d 2
Where: Nm = Minimum number of transects necessary to sample within the prescribed precision
and confidence
Sz = Sample variance (n-1 degrees of freedom)
d = Desired level of precision (0.1 for cover, production and 0.15 for WPD)
t = the (a = .10) t table value for a single -tailed t-test with (n-1) degrees of freedom
X = Sample arithmetic mean
Red Rock Crusher
The red rock crusher site was constructed on an area previously disturbed by mining, and the area was subsequently
not reclaimed. Therefore, the requirements of Rule 4.15. 10 can be applied to this area. That is, the best available
plant growth media topsoil or other suitable material in the reaffected area can be used and a minimum ground cover
TR16-37 2.05-34 Revised 10/27/16
