PERMIT#: M-1981-250
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: February 2,2017
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection of the Brand Pit conducted at the request of Yuma County Road and
Bridge supervisor Don Marr. DRMS followed Mr. Marr and his crew to the Brand Pit immediately following the
pre-op inspection of the Crossland Pit site conducted previously that day. This site is a 242 acre 112c sand and
gravel pit located approximately 7 miles east of Wray Colorado. The main entrance to the pit is located off the
west side of County Road M, between County Roads 45 and 46. The site identification sign was posted at the
entrance from County Road M (photo 1). Due to the size of the site, and weather conditions prior and during
the inspection, (fresh snow) the boundary markers were not verified during this inspection.
As can be seen in the attached photos, snow cover made it difficult to conduct a detailed inspection of the
site. However, a tour of the active area showed that the general condition and operation of the site was
excellent. All working faces and stockpiles were properly sloped and stable, and topsoil and overburden
stockpiles appeared to be well vegetated for stability.
Only one limited area located at the south side of the permit area, near the junction of the site access road
with the active area, was observed to have slopes steeper than 3:1. DRMS recommends that Yuma County
utilize a combination of dozing the nearby material back to the face, and pushing the slopes down from the
top,to return this area to final reclamation slopes of 3:1 or flatter.
As always with this type of larger 112c site, DRMS recommends that Yuma County maintain good weed
control, concurrent reclamation, and runoff management practices to avoid issues that could result in minor
infractions or that may delay final reclamation.
No other issues were noted during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Don Marr-Yuma County
1310 South Blake St.
Wray,CO 80758
