Acme Brick Company "I
AcmE
Castle Rock, Colorado 41IN BR c,, I# IEIBP
Texas
z ite 1W Quarries
January 5, 2017
CERTIFIED MAIL—RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED
Mr. Dan Avery—AICP/Chief Planner
100 Third Street
Castle Rock, Colorado 80104
Re: Acme Brick Company— Denver Brick Company
Request for an amendment of an approved Use by Special Review permit
Dear Mr. Avery:
Denver Brick Company would like to request an amendment to the Use by Special
Review Permit in the A-1 district to allow a 15-year window for mining activity to continue
under the proposed amendment.
The clay at the Stevens mine is an integral part of the production of red brick. Currently
approximately 55% of the production is red brick. Of that production approximately 45%
of the red mix is the Stevens clay.
At this time Denver Brick does not have alternate red clay to replace the Stevens
clay. All other permits are in place (ie. Mining permit, storm water discharge permit,
APEN).
Air, water and noise impacts would continue to be minimal as described in the current
permit. As the mining process moves to the west reclamation will follow the excavation
from east to west.
Sincerely;
Robert Tibbetts
Mining, Environmental, QC Supervisor & Contract Administrator
CC: Steve Helzer
Lynn Burchfield
