PERMIT#: M-2011-004
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: TC1
INSPECTION DATE: September 30,2015
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was requested by the Operator, Valco Canon City Concrete Div. (Valco) to discuss options for
modifying the reclamation plan such that the interested new land owner could be assured the changes would
be consistent with their intended land use. The Operator was represented by Mr. Steve O'Brian and the
interested land owner by Mr. Stan Peters, and Ms. Polly Jessen during the inspection. The Canon City East Pit
site entrance is about 1 % miles south of U.S. Hwy 50 on MacKenzie Ave. on the east side of Canon City.
Backfilling and Grading: All parties discussed options for revegetating the concrete disposal area east of the
former plant site. It was agreed the area would need 18 to 24 inches of pit run material (-1/4" to 2") with 6" to
8" of growth media applied on top for revegetation. It was also agreed that the concrete should be drilled in a
grid pattern to allow infiltration. A TR was agreed on to outline the proposed changes, that should also include
the removal of the 1977 proposed planting of Russian Olive trees. It was agreed there was adequate pit run
material available on site for backfill.
Processing Waste: The slash pile between the plant site and the concrete disposal area (East Pit) needs to be
removed.
Revegetation: The west pit appeared to have adequate vegetation. The Division recommended a release
request be submitted for the west side. The east pit is near release except for the concrete disposal area, some
remaining structures, and a few Russian Olive trees, tamarisk and thistle that need to be removed and/or
treated.
Inspection Contact Address
Tom Brubaker
Valco, Inc.
12753 S.
