HYDROLOGIC CHARACTERIZATION AND MONITORING PLAN 24
4.2.1.12 Spring 2012-1
Spring 2012-1 is located in an unnamed tributary to upper Deep Creek, which is tributary to the
North Fork (Plate 1). This spring is located south of the southeast mine panels area and east of
the SOD mine panels area. The source of this spring appears to issue from alluvium. The spring
appears to have seasonal flow in response to spring runoff, and is dry in the summer and fall
months. This spring has been monitored since 2013.
4.2.1.13 Spring 2012-2
Spring 2012-2 is located in an unnamed tributary to upper Deep Creek, which is tributary to the
North Fork (Plate 1). This spring is located south of the southeast mine panels area and east of
the SOD mine panels area. The source of this spring appears to issue from alluvium. The spring
appears to have seasonal flow in response to spring runoff, and is dry in the summer and fall
months. This spring has been monitored since 2013.
4.2.1.14 Spring 2012-3
Spring 2012-3 is located in an unnamed tributary to upper Deep Creek, which is tributary to the
North Fork (Plate 1). This spring is located south of the southeast mine panels area and east of
the SOD mine panels area. The source of this spring appears to issue from sandstone bedrock.
The spring appears to have perennial flow, with the highest flows occurring in the spring. This
spring has been monitored since 2013.
4.2.1.15 Spring 2012-4
Spring 2012-4 is located in an unnamed tributary to upper Deep Creek, which is tributary to the
North Fork (Plate 1). This spring is located south of the southeast mine panels area and east of
the SOD mine panels area. The source of this spring appears to issue from sandstone bedrock.
The spring appears to have perennial flow, and has been monitored since 2013.
4.2.2 Springs above the B -Seam in the Box Canyon Area in the
North Fork of the Gunnison River Drainage Basin
4.2.2.1 Spring 11-2
Spring 11-2 is located east of Box Canyon on a hillside on the south side of the North Fork (Plate
1). This spring is situated north of the Box Canyon mine panels area. It issues from alluvium
below a sandstone cliff, has seasonal flow, and is often dry or nearly dry in summer and autumn.
Hydrologic monitoring at this spring began in 2000. Slumping of the alluvium at this location
(since WY 2006) has caused the spring flow to periodically change course and become dispersed
across the hillside.
4.2.2.2 Spring 10-1
Spring 10-1 is located on the east side of lower Box Canyon (Plate 1). It is situated north of the
Box Canyon mine panels area and issues from alluvium on slopes tributary to the North Fork.
Flow is variable and does not follow a seasonal pattern. Hydrologic monitoring at this spring
began in 1999.
Revised 09/07- PR12; 08/16- TR139 HydroGeo, Inc
