Coal Handling and Preparation. Coal from each production section is
• transferred from production areas to the belt haulage system by electrically
powered shuttle cars. The shuttle cars discharge their load to underground
feeder-breakers which break large coal lumps and feed the coal to underground
haulage belts. The underground belt haulage system typically consists of
three (3) segments; the panel belts which carry coal from the operating
section to the submains; the submain belts which move coal from the panels to
the main haulage entries; and the main haulage belt moves coal from the
submains to the raw coal stockpile. Panel and submain belts are typically
36" wide roof-hung conveyor belts which utilize standard prefabricated
components. EFCI currently has approximately 17.000 feet of submain/panel
belt in place and operating.
