(c) The presence of threatened or endangered species:
Since the site is presently used for mining, there are no known threatened or endangered
animal species on the proposed amendment area. However, according to the USFW
Service, two animal species, the Preble's meadow jumping mouse (Zapus hudsonius
preblei) and the Least Tern(Stena aYtillarum)which are listed may be found in Morgan
County and surrounding counties. None have been observed at the mine site or on the
amendment area.
Based on a search of the USFW Service website, there are no known threatened or
endangered plant species on the amendment area.
(d) Describe the effect of mining and reclamation activity during and after the
proposed operation on existing wildlife:
Given the existing mined area has a relatively insignificant level of impact on wildlife in
the area, any additional impact due to mining the amended area is likely minimal. Once
mining and reclamation are complete, the area will be returned to its pre-mining use,
rangeland. Any impact which might have occurred in relation to wildlife will be negated.
(2) Division of Parks and Wildlife comments:
A request shall be sent, certified mail,to the Division of Parks and Wildlife (CDPW). We
will provide a copy of their response, if received. Where possible, the Operator/Applicant
will attempt to minimize impacts to wildlife and follow CDPW recommendations.
49
