Peabody Sage Creek Mining, LLC
Peabody Sage Creel. Mine
29515 RCR 27
Oak ('reek, Co 30.167
inspection, maintenance, and monitoring activities will continue under Temporary Cessation,
with the following modifications or clarifications:
• The CDRMS currently inspects the Mine on a monthly basis. Under Temporary
Cessation, these inspections will continue, but on a quarterly basis.
• Under approved Technical Revision TR09-16, the hydrologic monitoring schedule has
been reduced to provide the basis ongoing information required by both the CDRMS
and WQCD. No further monitoring reductions are anticipated at this time under
Temporary Cessation.
• Pond sediment capacity surveys are currently on a 10 -year schedule (given that the
contributing drainage areas are reclaimed and well vegetated) and were most recently
surveyed in 2016, so this requirement should not be affected by Temporary Cessation.
• PSCM currently conducts annual raptor surveys to assess any changes in raptor
occupancy and use of the area. Given that there is very limited activity at the site,
PSCM requests that this annual survey requirement be suspended during Temporary
Cessation.
• PSCM coordinates with CPW on annual grouse surveys, focusing primarily on the
Seneca Il reclaimed areas, but including portions of the Sage Creek Permit Area. Given
CPW's interest in documenting grouse populations and any significant changes over
time, PSCM will continue to cooperate with CPW's ongoing survey efforts, so long as
they are willing to continue to conduct these surveys.
PSCM will notify the CDRMS in advance of any additional proposed backfilling, regrading, re -
vegetation, environmental monitoring, underground opening closures, or water treatment
activities.
d) As indicated in the introductory paragraph, resumption of operations is unlikely to occur
anytime in the near future based upon current market conditions and near-term projections.
After you have opportunity to review the accompanying information, please feel free to contact me
with any questions, or to discuss. We appreciate your consideration and assistance.
Best regards,
For Peabody Sa reed ining, LLC
Jerry ettle n
Manager E iro ental Affairs
Peabody olor o Operations
29515 RC
Oak Creek, Colorado 80467
970.870.2712
