Cameo Refuse Disposal Area Nos.1 and 2
Reclamation of the remaining benches and the top of the Cameo Refuse
Disposal Areas (CRDA) was performed as discussed in section (a) of this Tab
Section. The final contours for these sites are shown on Exhibit 9C, this section
and Exhibits 51, 52 and 60 located in Tab Section 13. Cross - sections
representing the existing and final grade are shown on Exhibits 18 and 53, Tab
Section 13. These contours reflect a design final configuration rather than AOC.
Design for the slopes and benches is given in Tab Section 13 along with Exhibits
18 and 51 through 53 and 60.
Cover of the refuse piles was implemented in three stages. First the outslopes
and benches were graded to design slopes. Overburden material was then
hauled to the toe and along the benches and spread over the surface of the piles
to the design thickness. The overburden thickness was the total cover
requirement less the available topsoil cover thickness. The third stage was the
distribution of the topsoil using the same method of placement as used for
overburden. Temporary roads were installed within permitted disturbance
boundaries as necessary to access the benches with trucks and heavy
equipment. The MSHA berms installed on the roads during pile use were graded
into the inside edge of the road and a minor amount of filling was done along the
road to direct runoff flows across the former road rather than down the road.
Where benches are intersected by the road, the areas were graded and covered
to establish continuous benches across the pile. Cover material for CRDA 1 and
CRDA 2 was obtained from the Cameo Borrow Areas (CBA) Nos. 1 and 2, Coal
Canyon and Topsoil Piles 2, 7, 8 and 9 as necessary. Cover material for CRDA 2
was also generated during the construction of the upper diversion ditch as shown
on Exhibits 53 and 60. Table 14 -1 lists the cover volume for these piles using the
design 18 and 24" cover requirements.
Soil sampling was performed during 2002 on the cover material placed on CRDA
2 which included material from the upper diversion ditch. Sampling for pH, EC,
SAR and textural analysis was performed on a frequency of 1 per acre,
approximately 200' centers and 18" depth intervals. The soils were classified as
Silt Loam or Silty Clay Loam. See Appendix 9 -7 for the results of the soil
analyses.
PR -5 14 -11 (Rev. 02112)
