SOIL LOSS COMPARISON - BOWIE NO. 1 MINE
RECLAIMED VERSUS BASELINE (ADJACENT) CONDITIONS
The following calculations are presented to determine if untreated drainage from the reclaimed East Mine
is contributing suspended solids to stream flow or runoff outside the permit area in excess of premining
levels. Four ponds collect run-off from the East Mine, and the gob pile pond is at the toe of the gob pile.
The baseline data for comparison are considered to be those conditions that exist in the adjacent area. The
adjacent area in this case is pinyon juniper located on each side of the reclaimed areas. The condition of the
vegetation on the adjacent areas are obtained from the Harner & Associates July 1981 Vegetation
Inventory located in Volume 9A. The condition of vegetation on the reclaimed areas are presented in detail
in Cedar Creek Associates December 2016 Revegetation Evaluation.
Pinyon Juniper Adjacent
Baseline
Total Perennial Cover+Rock+Litter
72.3%
Perennial Cover:
Grasses, Grasslikes
2.4%
Forbs
1A%
Shrubs
29.6%
Trees
14.1%
Other - Rock
12.9%
Litter
11.9%
Total Perennial Cover+Litter
67.2%
Total Perennial Cover+Litter
59.4%
Canopy (Shrubs+trees) 1
43.7%
Ground Cover at Surface (59.4-43.7)
15.7%
East Mine - Reclaimed
Reclaimed
Total Perennial Cover+Rock+Litter
73.5%
Perennial Cover.
Grasses, Grasslikes
27.7%
Forbs
22.1%
Shrubs
0.3%
Other - Rock
6.3%
Litter
17.1%
Total Perennial Cover+Litter
67.2%
Canopy (Shrubs) 1
0.3%
Ground Cover at Surface (67.1-0.10)
r 66.9%
TR -62 Volume 8A - 8 10116
