B. Compaction shall be to the following minimum densities, reference ASTM D698 or <br /> AASHTO T99 Method A unless otherwise indicated. <br /> 1. Ground water barrier material: 95% <br /> 2. Pipe bedding. <br /> a. Compacted granular material: 80%(ASTM D4253,D4254) <br /> 3. Trench backfill. <br /> a. Within right-of-way and under areas of permanent surface <br /> improvements: Reference City of Greeley Street Construction <br /> Specifications, latest edition, Section 02595, Street Cut and <br /> Excavation Repair,Part 3.2. <br /> b. Under footings, foundations or structures: 100%. <br /> C. Seeded areas: 80%. <br /> d. Al other locations: 95%. <br /> e. Do not compact topsoil. <br /> 4. Where granular materials are used in lieu of cohesive soils reduce the above <br /> percentages by 15% to arrive at the relative density and ASTM D4253 and <br /> D4254 shall apply. <br /> C. Moisture Content <br /> 1. All compacted backfill shall be within 2% (+/-) of the optimum moisture <br /> content of the soil as determined by AASHTO T99 or ASTM D698. <br /> 2. Water shall be added to the material, or the material shall be harrowed, <br /> disced, bladed, or otherwise worked to insure a uniform moisture content, as <br /> specified. <br /> D. Moisture/density tests shall be performed at a depth of two feet (2) above the top of <br /> the pipe bedding and in two foot (2) increments up to the final grade, or as <br /> determined by the City. <br /> E. Moisture/density tests shall be performed at a minimum of 200 linear feet (200% as <br /> measured along the center line of the pipe,or as determined by the City. <br /> F. Water services shall have a minimum of one density test per service. <br /> G. Sanitary sewer services shall have a minimum of two density tests per service or at the <br /> City Inspector's discretion. <br /> H. Moisture/density tests in the vicinity of vaults, valve boxes, and manholes shall be <br /> Boyd Freeman Ditch Improvements 02320-10 Trenching,Backfilling and <br /> August 2005 Compacting <br />
