In order to minimize new disturbance, to the extent possible, the two additional
boreholes will utilize the existing access (light -use) road and one of the existing pads previously
permitted and constructed under MR16-296. A new pad, approximately 80 x 120 feet will be
constructed adjacent to the existing road for the second borehole. The boreholes will extend to a
maximum depth of approximately 990 feet, and will be accessed from County roads RCR33 and
RCR179, using the existing established Fish Creek Tipple, 18 -Right Shaft, and 9 -East Utility Borehole
roads.
As shown on Figure EX49EE-F2, one borehole will be completed from the existing 9 -East Exhaust
Blower Pad, with no additional disturbance. In addition to the two boreholes, new disturbance will
include the new pad, the addition of soil material from the new pad to the existing adjacent soil
stockpiles, and placement of a maximum of two additional wooden powerpoles for an extension of the
existing powerline to the new pad. Portable (wheel -mounted) surface blower units may be placed at
one or both of the new utility borehole locations.
Areas affected by the new disturbance were covered by the previous cultural resource survey and
wildlife review and consultation completed for MR16-296. The proposed new pad falls between the
two minor drainage features identified and addressed by MR16-296, and the existing drainage control
features, including a ditch on the east (upgradient) side of the road and two road culverts will
adequately address potential runon to the pad. The minor runoff from the new pad will be addressed as
a Small Area Exemption (SAE) by gravel surfacing on the pad and the existing line of wattles or
equivalent drainage control on the west side of the existing road and new pad. The 9 -East Utility
Boreholes will remain in place until they is no longer needed to support ongoing operations, and will
then be reclaimed. Reclamation will involve plugging and sealing the boreholes, regrading the pads
and road, soil material replacement, and reseeding.
