B Seam (Coal Bed #2): The only bed mined at the Ohio Creek No. 2 Mine, Coal Bed #2 was the
only coal bed known to exist within the BLM lease area. This bed was approximately 180 to 200 feet
higher than Bed #1. In the Ohio Creek Mining District, Bed #2 ranges from 4.5 to 8 feet thick,
though it is only up to 6 feet thick at the Ohio Creek No. 2 Mine. This bed is assigned to the non -
marine Paonia Shale member of the Mesaverde Formation in the Ohio Creek Mining District. Coal
mined from Bed #2 was classified in the lease as high volatile bituminous C, premium grade. This
metallurgical coal with coking properties was deemed an excellent domestic and steam coal as well.
C Seam (Coal Bed #3): Comprised a series of lenticular coals of local incidence occurring above
Bed #2 and about 250 feet above the Rollins Sandstone, Coal Bed #3 proved of little commercial
interest.
Lands Included in the Termination of Jurisdiction
The Ohio Creek No. 2 Mine was an underground mine.
