9. Previous recordings:
Site 5MF.4003 was originally recorded in 1995 by Metcalf Archaeological Consultants for the Colowyo Coal Company
Lease and Exploration Areas: Class III Cultural Resource Inventory project. The site was revisited in 2005 by TRC
Mariah Associates as part of the Collom Mine Expansion project.

Explain:
In 1995 site 5MF.4003 was recommended as needing more data during field evaluation by Metcalf Archaeological
Consultants, and this judgment was concurred on by TRC in 2005. Both companies argued that the prehistoric portion
of the site required subsurface testing in order to determine the extent of a suspected subsurface cultural component.
The historic portion of the site was recommended as non-contributing as it has no potential to further our understanding
of local or regional historic settlement, subsistence, or socioeconomic patterns. Tetra Tech concurs with the
recommendation that additional data is needed to determine the potential NRHP eligibility of the prehistoric component.
Tetra Tech also concurs that the historic component would not contribute to any potential a NRHP eligible
determination. The only significant impacts noted were the destruction of historic building/features 1 and 2 along with a
vegetation clearing event in the northern, historic component, part of the site. However, since the historic component is
non-contributing, the changes do not affect the overall integrity of the site. Integrity of the prehistoric component
