Cultural Resource Site Assessments for Collom Expansion Project Colowyo
consultation should occur as the cairns may be associated with activities significance to Native
Americans. Tetra Tech concurs with this recommendation. Aside from vegetation growth, the
2015 revisit noted that the cairn is unchanged from the 2005 recordation.
.
• p •. '..tom ; q ... Dugmore 9/11/2015
5MF.6088 — Prehistoric Lithic Scatter, Needs Data
Site 5MF.6088 was originally recorded in 2005 by TRC as part of the Colowyo Collom Mine
expansion project. The recordation reports a prehistoric artifact scatter containing four bifaces,
one projectile point, one drill, four utilized flakes, two cores, and 105 pieces of debitage. The
recorders reported the collection of the projectile point and argued it was morphologically similar
to an Eden type point.
In 2015 Tetra Tech revisited the site as part of the current undertaking (Figure 17). No significant
changes or impacts to the site were noted. Additional cultural material was also identified during
the revisit. The proximal portion of tan chert corner notch projectile point was found, but not
collected (Figure 18). The point fragment measures 2.6 cm by 1.5 cm by 0.5 cm and was too
fragmented to determine possibly typological affiliation. A complete sandstone mano was found
(Figure 19). The mano is oval with two well ground faces and shaped edges. The mano measures
7.9 cm by 10 cm by 2.5 cm.
NRHP Status and Condition Assessment
In 2005 TRC recommended site 5MF.6088 as needing additional data to determine its eligibility
for inclusion on the NRHP. TRC conducted two auger tests during recordation, but did not
encounter any evidence of a subsurface cultural component(s). However, more intensive testing
was recommended to confirm the presence or absence of any subsurface component(s).
