Cultural Resource Site Assessments for Collom Expansion Project Colowyo
NRHP Status and Condition Assessment
In 1995 site 5MF.4010 was recommended by Metcalf Archaeological Consultants as needing
more data in order to determine its eligibility status. In 2005 TRC recorded five additional flake
localities and concurred with the 1995 recommendation. Based on the 2015 revisit, Tetra Tech
concurs with the recommendation. Since 2005 erosion of the cutbank has been on-going with
small scale deterioration and large scale block detachment. However, no evidence was observed
that the erosion is significant enough to have removed the potential for a subsurface cultural
resource component(s).
Figure 13. The site
consists of a small pile of sandstone rocks. No additional prehistoric or historic artifacts were
located during the survey. In 2005, the site was revisited by TRC as part of the Colowyo Collom
Mine expansion project and no changes were reported. In 2015, Tetra Tech revisited the site as
part of the current undertaking (Figure 14).The site appears to be unchanged since the previous
recording in 2005.
NRHP Status and Condition Assessment
In 2004 Metcalf Archaeological Consultants recommended site 5MF.5417 as not eligible due to
the lack of deposition and artifacts, which was concurred by the Colorado OAHP. In 2005 TRC
determined that further evaluation of the site to determine potential inclusion on the NRHP or as
a possible Native American Traditional Cultural Property. The site is part of three additional cairns
Terra Tach July 25, 20'0 47
For Official b.se Cnw: Cisc'osure of Site ! acanors Prohibited 03 CFR 7 18)
