bedrock groundwater passing this location are therefore monitored. As shown on Plate 27,
the water elevation at the GVMW-8 location decreases significantly with depth, being 112
feet lower at the deepest well than at the shallowest. As a result, groundwater flow in this
location is predominantly downwards, rather than horizontal. Further, the head at the
deepest completion (9740 ft amsl at GVMW-08A-[200-250]) is lower than the heads at the
GVMW-23 pair (9756 and 9754 feet amsl), while the colluvium at the GVMW-8 location is
usually unsaturated. For these reasons, GVMW-8 is a useful monitoring point compliance
location for groundwater flow from Grassy Valley into the diatreme, but not for groundwater
flow laterally down the valley.
