November 3, 2016 C-1981-028/Keenesburg Strip Mine RAR

Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 3
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2

o B- Pit held a small amount of water.
Photo 3: B Pit, holding a small amount of water.

TOPSOIL - Rule 4.06
Removal 4.06.2; Substitute Materials 4.06.4(4), Storage and Protection 4.06.3,
Redistribution 4.06.4:
No Erosional features on the top sand piles were observed. Overall top sand piles appeared stable and
shaped to a stable grade. Having been seeded in autumn of 2016 short term cover was establishing and
stabilizing the material from excess erosion. No areas are slated for topsand application untill 2018 or
so, as sufficient overburden (six feet) must be placed in advance of topsanding. Recently the mine
purchased a Trimble surveying device. The device is mounted on the vehicle roof and provides elevation
information for amount of material to be cut or filled.
o Overburden placement is progressing from south to north toward the B Pit. Moving overburden,
cutting and filling was taking place at time of inspection.
o Stockpiling compost continues to take place as budget allows, assureing an adequate supply when
needed.
