aNo mining activity was done for 19 years (1997-2016). Further, Mr. Powell
has stated that no mining has occurred since his purchase of the pit over a
considerable portion. We estimate that at least 6.19 acres of the 9.99, have
not been disturbed, or utilized, since the early seventies (Map 8). Within the
6.19 acres, due to the lack of activity for at least 40 years, vegetation has
recovered, or is recovering on previously mined areas; not all of the 6.19
acres have been mined or disturbed. This recovery was especially good on
the eastern portions that were moderate in slope and in portions of the
storage area (Photo 4 and 5, also Appendix F, Photos F1 through F4).
The foreground of Photo 4 shows a recovering sagebrush/grass land
community dominated by the following species:
• Wyoming sagebrush
• Douglas/yellow rabbitbrush
• Shadscale
Snakeweed
Indian ricegrass
Yellow sweetclover
Photo 4.
