l
1
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal monitoring inspection of the Ellison Pit; DRMS File No. M-1978-170 operated by Delta
County. This site is located approximately 3 miles east of Delta, Colorado in Delta County. I, Stephanie
Mitchell of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) conducted the inspection. Mr.
Larry Record of Delta County Road & Bridge accompanied me on the inspection.
This is a 112c mining operation with a 148 permit acres. Mining is currently active at the site. Phase III of
mining is currently taking place and moving to the South . The maximum allowed disturbance is 35 acres for
the permit. It is estimated that the disturbance is around 60 acres. The Division requests that the Operator
send in a Technical Revision requesting for increased maximum allowed disturbance.
The affected area was marked by markers that were clearly visible and adequate to delineate the affected
area boundary in accordance with Rule 3.1.12(2).
Topsoil has been salvaged in advance of the excavation and placed in various berms adjacent to the pit slopes
on the north and east sides of the permit area. The topsoil berms appear stable with vegetative cover.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Stephanie Mitchell at the Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado
81501, phone number (970) 242-5025.
