The pit was originally
permitted for 35 acres of disturbed area inl978. Delta County is asking for the disturbed area to
be increased to 80 acres for the following reasons.
• Ellison Pit has the largest variety of processed materials with 23 different road
materials stock piled. This requires a large area to store the materials for use on
different projects throughout the county.
• The crusher and conveyors require quite a large area to stack and sort the
materials.
• The Ellison Pit also is permitted for our Asphalt Plant to supply asphalt for all
three road and bridge districts so the materials to supply the plant are stock piled
in the permitted area of the pit.
• Since the gravel is on top of a small mesa with fingers it is difficult to mine and
reclaim pit areas without having to move materials several times.
Delta County is still committed to stay compliant with the mining regulations and reclamation of
the pit in the future.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
OFFICE OF THE COUNTY ENGINEER
