As the site will be Avoided by a minimum of 50 feet, no further work,
including cultural resource monitoring, is recommended.
6.0 Conclusions and Recommendations
One newly recorded prehistoric site (5LP 11050) site was found during the intensive cultural resource
inventory for GCC Energy's proposed Groundwater Monitoring Wells Project. Site 5LP 11050, a large
Basketmaker III period encampment (ca. AD 600-750) is considered NRHP-eligible under Criterion D
due to its significant data potential, despite past disturbances. The MW -4 proposed monitoring well was
relocated over 50 feet from the site boundary on the north side of the 620 Sand Court Road driveway. As
the site has been avoided by more than 50 feet, no further cultural resource work is recommended.
Provided the alternative MW -4 well location is utilized, cultural resource clearance for the project to
proceed is recommended as no significant or potentially significant cultural properties will be affected.
7.0 References Cited
Aubrey, W.M.
1991 Geologic Framework of Cretaceous and Tertiary Rocks in the Southern Ute Indian Reservation
and Adjacent Areas in the Northern San Juan Basin, Southwestern Colorado.
