• 5LP7831 (IF)
This isolated find consists of a 1940s trash dump on the eastern edge of the valley at the
base of the rocky ridge. The area of trash measures 10 ft N -S by 8 ft E -W. The date of the IO is
based on a 1941 license plate and Hazel Atlas Glass Co. bottle bases (Wilson 1979). Coal chunks
and badly deteriorated milled lumber and logs were associated with the historic artifacts.
Glass included window, clear and brown, screw top bottles for condiments, canning, and
medicine, and milk glass canning lid liners. Numerous sanitary cans with knife openings, a
Snowdrift Rabbi Siegal (some hebrew lettering) can, a talcum powder can, cast iron stove legs,
an aluminum bucket, oil cloth fragments, a large crock, numerous batteries, a leather boot,
were also present. A faint track road follows the base of the ridge and it appears that this road
was used for casual dumping as several items such as in isolated tires, a broken crock, etc., were
found along the base of the ridge.
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
Results of this survey were similar to expectations. Cultural resources were limited to
isolated occurrences indicative of casual and sporadic use of the area during both prehistoric
and and historic times.
Cultural resource clearance is recommended for this project. The two isolated occurrences
located are recommended as non-significant and not eligible for the National Register of
Historic Places.
• Buckles, William G. and Nancy B.
