SECTION 02200
EARTHWORK
1. SCOPE
1.1 WORK INCLUDED: This Section includes construction of earth embankments
and placement of embankment fills to construct final slopes to the established
lines and grades at the locations shown on the Contract Drawings and as
directed by the Engineer.
1.2 DEFINITIONS
1.2.1 Relative Compaction: "Relative compaction" is defined as the ratio, in
percent, of the as-compacted field dry density to the laboratory maximum
dry density as determined by ASTM D 698. Corrections for oversize
material may be applied to either the as-compacted field dry density or the
maximum dry density, as determined by the Engineer.
1.2.2 Optimum Moisture Content: "Optimum moisture content"shall be
determined by the ASTM D 698 to determine the maximum dry density for
relative compaction. Field moisture content shall be determined on the
basis of the fraction passing the 3/ inch sieve.
1.2.3 Engineer: The licensed engineer in the State of Colorado designated to
perform construction inspection services and administrative functions on
behalf of the Owner.
1.3 SUBMITTALS
1.3.1 All submittals, including drawings and calculations, shall be required for
the sole purpose of providing Engineer sufficient details to confirm that the
Contractor's planned work and work in progress is in accordance with
Contract Documents. Engineer's review shall not be construed to relieve
Contractor in anyway of responsibilities under the Contract. Do not begin
work on any item requiring a submittal until the required relevant
submittals have been reviewed and approved by the Engineer. All
structural designs and other engineered components shall be signed and
sealed by a professional engineer licensed in the State of Colorado.
1.3.2 Preconstruction Submittals—Submit to the Engineer the following a
minimum of three weeks before the scheduled start of the applicable
activity:
A.
