269 31 Road
Grand Junction, CO 81503
October 28, 2016
Division of Reclamation Mining &Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Subject: Permit#M2016-050, C Road Pits Grand Junction, Colorado
To Whom It May Concern:
We are writing to oppose the approval of the subject permit. Currently Parkerson Construction already has one
gravel pit operating in this residential/agriculture zoned neighborhood with a permit that allows for 100 gravel
trucks per day to travel up and down our road. Unfortunately, our home is located on 31 Road, which is where
the majority of the gravel trucks travel on a daily basis. I'm not sure why they are allowed to operate in an area
that is zoned residential/agriculture and have not been able to get this question answered by either Parkerson
Construction or Mesa County.
My husband and I have resided at 269 31 Road since 1993. This is our primary residence and we have invested a
great deal of money as well as 23 years of sweat equity into this property. It wasn't until we recently retired
that we realized how much of a negative impact the current gravel pit traffic has on the quality of life in our
neighborhood and the resale value of our life-long investment.
When we saw the sign posted regarding the permit for yet another gravel pit in the same area,we were
absolutely horrified!! We have made numerous attempts with both Parkerson Construction and Mesa County
officials to get some of the gravel truck traffic diverted to other areas, to have the speed limits lowered, and to
have police officers patrol this area for speeders; however, all of our attempts and efforts have been in vain.
We have new young families with small children moving into our neighborhood and we're afraid that it is just a
matter of time before something terrible happens. Futhermore, the peace and tranquility that our
neighborhood once offered has been completed diminished. You can't even have conversation on your porch
without having to outshout the noise from all of the gravel trucks traveling on 31 Road. The trucks travel way
too fast and will be unable to stop in the event a child runs out into the road. They also spill tremendous
amounts of gravel on the roads that does not get cleaned up. I was told by a neighbor that that the trucks are
not supposed to run until after 8 am and stop running at 5 pm; however, they travel as early as 6 am in the
morning and as late as 7 pm at night. We are completely opposed to having two (2) gravel pits operating in our
neighborhood especially since were are zoned residential/agriculture and the gravel pits have a negative impact
on the value of our residential/agriculture properties. We beg you not to approve the subject permit!!
Sincerely,
), C,-/ 14 fz
Robert and Alane Wooster
