5. Morgan Property Straw Wattle Alternate Sediment Control
The Morgan's have strongly expressed that they do not want collection ditches on their property
since the ditches will collect water and saturate the crops, thus killing them. Also, the Morgan's
have expressed that their irrigation equipment, center pivots and siderolls, will have difficulty
operating across ditches.
Therefore, the Morgan's have agreed with New Horizon on the use of straw wattles as a means
of alternate sediment control for their property. The material characteristics, installation
guidelines, and design values for the 9.0 inch diameter straw wattles which will be used on the
Morgan property are shown on the following pages. These straw wattles will be installed in the
locations shown on Map 2.05.3(3)-1 to ensure that sediment control is provided without the use
of ditches. The wattles will be installed immediately after successful soil replacement according
to the permit.
Once vegetation is established on the irrigated area and erosion can be controlled by this
vegetation, the straw wattles will be removed when the requirement of Rule 4.05.2(2) are met
and demonstrated to the Division. Vegetation should be established rapidly since the property
will have good soil and will be irrigated and seeded with an initial cover crop to be determined
by the landowner.
Attachment 2.05.3(3)-1 Page 75 June 2016 (TR -73)
