Historic Properties Treatment Plan, Collont Mine, Colorado 9
settlement and subsistence organization of the groups represented in each component.
Specifically, the bison remains at Sites 5MF969 and 5MF3996 need to be investigated as it
relates to the cultural materials at the sites.
Data Requirements: Intact occupation surfaces and features having well - preserved faunal
and /or botanical remains; samples suitable for macrobotanical, palynological, or blood residue
analysis.
2.4 SITE ACTIVITIES
Research Topic 1: What is the total set of remains (features, flaked stone tools, debitage,
groundstone, animal and plant remains, heat- altered rock [HAR], etc.) present within each
activity, area identified? What activities are implied by the particular combination and
distribution of remains present in each of the activity areas and by the set of activity areas
comprising each component? What are the implications of these various site aetivities.for site
.function and nature of each site occupation/component? Do the types and /or combinations of
activities indicated in each component vary, by cultural historic period?
The total set of remains present within each activity area is generally presumed to represent the
sorts of activities performed at that part of the site at a particular time, subject to certain
limitations. Therefore, the study of the quantities and particular combinations of different
classes of remains within each activity area should provide insight into the activity or activities
performed. For example, certain debitage profiles are considered representative of particularly
types of reduction activities (Patterson 1990), and the presence of hearths, groundstone, charred
seeds, and elevated pollen counts for economic species provides evidence of plant processing
(Simms 1994).
In investigations to date, a number of overlapping activities are represented within each activity
area. This suggests that they served as general residential campsites associated with settlement
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
