Sedimentation Ponds (Rule 4.05.6)
The only sedimentation pond onsite was impounding a small amount of water at the
time of this evaluation. The pond's embankments were well -vegetated with herbaceous
species and stable. The principal and emergency spillways were unobstructed and
stable (Figure 4). No issues were observed.
Topsoil Storage (Rule 4.06.3)
The topsoil stockpile was stable, vegetated, and featured a sediment containment berm
as required by the approved permit. No resource loss was observed.
Temporary Cessation of Operations (Rule 4.30.1)
The mine portals were secured as required (Figure 5). No issues were observed.
Maintenance items identified during inspection:
Stream Buffer Zone markers were not installed as required under Rule 4.02.5 or
maintained as required under Rule 4.02.1. The two 900 undisturbed area culvert trash
racks at the mine portals area were partially obstructed with sediment and require
maintenance. A limited number of small pieces of coal and minor sedimentation exist
within the Stream Buffer Zone. The operator representative committed to addressing
these items in short order.
Programmatic compliance:
No violations were issued as a result of this evaluation nor are any pending.
Photos:
Figure 1.
