observed at the toe of the ECOSA where the leak was previously occurring. On August 18,
2016, Newmont submitted and received verbal approval of an Addendum to TR#80 requesting
an additional temporary fresh water line tie-in below the break in the Grassy Valley Pipeline and
placement of a portable water stand to provide water to the HGM.
Pipe Reroute
The new permanent fresh water line will tie into the existing Grassy Valley Pipeline at the toe of
the ECOSA dump (Drawing NO. 30-605-18 Water Line Plan) and carry fresh water originating at
the Grassy Valley Pump Station around the ECOSA dump to tie back into the existing line. The
existing pipeline will be abandoned beyond the tie in location until the new line ties back into it
above the dump. The new 8 inch carbon steel pipeline will connect into a T that has already
been installed for the additional temporary pipeline and water stand approved in the Addendum
to TR#80. The entire pipeline will be buried subsurface at a depth of 6 feet to the top of the pipe
and run a total of 10,837 feet. The new 8 inch carbon steel pipeline will follow the toe of the
ECOSA dump, subsurface, and go around the topsoil stockpile for a total length of 5,527 feet
where it will switch to an 8 inch HDPE DR 07 line and run another 2,187 feet. The new pipe then
will switch to an 8 inch HDPE DR 11 pipe for the remainder 3,123 feet where it will tie back into
the existing line abandoned underneath the ECOSA dump. The design of the pipe and burial of
the pipeline will accommodate haul truck traffic in all areas even though it only crosses a haul
road once. Please see the attached drawings for the designs and water line profile.
Pipe Specifications
-Maximum flow 925 gpm
-Maximum pressure at the pump is 224 psig
-8" Carbon Steel Pipe; 5,527 feet includes a 10% safety factor on length
-8" HDPE DR 07, 4YQ spec; 2,187 feet includes a 10% safety factor on length
-8" HDPE DR 11, 4YR spec; 3,123 feet includes a 10% safety factor on length
Schedule
The temporary line will take approximately eight weeks to install. Installation will begin
immediately upon approval of this TR. If installation were to commence by mid-September
2016, the line would be available for use by mid-November 2016 as depicted in TR#80.
Financial Warranty
Newmont has determined the installation of this pipeline will not affect the financial warranty
carried with the state as the line is entirely buried, therefore, will be capped and abandoned
upon closure.
Enclosed please find check no. 200024123 in the amount of $1,006 for the technical revision
fee.
