used have been analyzed and found to be non-toxic and non-acid forming. Data
from chemical analysis of representative surfacing materials are presented in
Table 3.7-1. The materials are sufficiently durable for the conditions encoun-
tered at this mine.
3.7.2.5 Maintenance
The haulroads at the Trapper Mine are maintained in good condition by grading the
road surface and shoulders, cleaning and re-establishing ditches, cleaning cul-
verts, dust suppression, removing snow and mud, reapplying additional surfacing
materials, maintaining traffic control devices and spraying to control undesir-
able roadside plant growth. These endeavors are carried out as necessary and the
haulroads are inspected almost continuously during coal haulage periods to insure
that the maintenance is accomplished. Road watering is used for dust suppression
as an integral part of our fugitive dust control emissions plan. Other methods
of dust suppression may be used in the future, such as adding palliatives to the
• road water, or paving.
Portions of haulroads damaged by events such as floods or earthquakes will not be
used for hauling coal until the road has been repaired.
3.7.2.6 Restoration
When no longer required, haulroads and associated structures are removed and the
area is reclaimed. Culverts and drainage control structures, salvageable rip -rap
and salvagable road surface materials are removed. The road bed is ripped and
road cuts, embankments and berms are graded to blend into the surrounding topo-
graphy and reestablish the natural drainage of the area. Disturbed areas are
then retopsoiled and revegetated according to Sections 3.2 and 3.6. Access
points to closed roads will be posted to prohibit vehicular travel over the area.
If needed, cross drains, water bars, etc. will be constructed during restoration
to aid in stabilizing the reclaimed area.
3-170
REVISED FER 1 -i 1-1
