PERMIT#: M-2000-034
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: September 12,2016
OBSERVATIONS
This was an inspection for the Loveland Pit, a 112c sand and gravel permit operated by Martin Marietta
Materials (MMM) aggregates and concrete, conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS. DRMS visited the site on the
morning of 9-12-16 to verify site conditions prior to MLRB consideration for approval of the operator's request
for a second consecutive five year period of Temporary Cessation. On August 8, 2016 Lafarge requested a
second five year period of Temporary Cessation of activity for this site. The remaining 27 acres permitted at
this location remains unmined, however, in order to be economically feasible the operator wishes to wait until a
project closer to the site becomes available before re-commencing mining activity.
The site is currently in compliance with the applicable Act and Rules and there are no outstanding complaints
against the operation. Required notices for the second period of temporary cessation were mailed by DRMS on
August 10, 2016, and to date, no responses or comments have been received by the Division. Any comments
provided to DRMS prior to the September 28, 2016 MLRB hearing will be provided to the Board for their
consideration.
The current reclamation bond of$354,733 should be sufficient to reclaim the site, as little disturbance has taken
place in the remaining area of the permit, and the site is currently zoned as industrial/commercial. The eastern
half of the permit was previously used for a portable concrete plant and stockpile storage yard, and remains
primarily a gravel lot(photos 1 and 2). The western half of the permit area is largely undisturbed and vegetated
at this time (photos 3 and 4). An excavated area that was intended for use as a settling pond has been
abandoned and overgrown, but there was no exposed groundwater present in it during this inspection(photos 5
and 6).
No issues were noted during this inspection that would preclude approval of the second five year period of
temporary cessation, however, DRMS would like to take this oppportunity to remind MMM that even though
the site may be in temporary cessation, required site mantienance such as weed control and maintenance of site
identification signs and permit boundary markers is still required until reclamation is complete and the permit is
released.
Inspection Contact Address
Julie Mikulas
Martin Marietta Materials,Inc.
1800 N.Taft Hill Road
Fort Collins,CO 80521
