Stephen E.Hilgers,President, Santiago Mining Company,LLC
6499 Plateau Drive Englewood,
* ** CO 80111 RED ,rD
September 5,2016 SEP 06 2016
Michael A.Cunningham,Environmental Protection Specialist DMSION OF REOWIATiON
CO Division of Reclamation,Mining and Safety MINING,AND SAFETY
1313 Sherman Street,Room 215
Denver, Colorado 802013
RE: Response to August 31,2016 Santiago Mine;File No.P-2016-014 Second Notice
Dear Mr.Cunningham:
1. The excavated material from the drill site will be stored as berm material to be used exclusively
for backfilling-at the drill site.
2. The approximate area of 16x80 ft.will receive the excavated materials by constructing a
temporary berm in a manner to control erosion@ the North end of the Santiago#1.This area is
easily accessible, when material is to be transported back to the drill site for backfilling. All
material will be held in place and designated for back fill only at the drill site.In the event of any
shortfalls of material for any reason, there is available more of the exact same material for any
shortfall.
This unique occurrence of talus and glacial moraine material has qualities of early compaction,
and the til-clays make for a quality planting medium.
I have included a few photos showing this quality just under the rough surface of the talus.A
photo of the 5t'Level working platform will show an examination of the compacted area's natural
reseeding of wildflowers and grasses. As a naturalist,it is my intent to protect this environment
of this unique caldera area for all time.
3. The time line of permanent abandonment of drill site is unknown. The enclosed sketch may
clarify backfilling intents and procedures. The drill collar will be left open and in place for
emergency use or for additional use for further exploration paralleling the Santiago#8 vein.A
PVC 3 ft. sleeve to be placed over the drill collar and backfilled to excavated grade, leaving
approximately 6 inches to accommodate the PVC cap.An 8 x4 inch x 2 ft. square wall with a 3
inch thick concrete cap will give additional protection to the drill collar, while providing easy
access for and further use down the road. When permanent abandonment is scheduled, backfilling
will be on top of the enclosure to original slope or grade.
Respectfully Submitted,
!Santiago
ephen it s, si Mining omp y LLC
