August 25, 2016 C-1981-028/Keenesburg Strip Mine RAR
will be treated with preemergent in autumn of 2016. Inter seeding will be conducted as
needed in these areas, most likely in autumn of 2017 once weeds are reduced.
o Well established grasses comprise Area 24. A grass count took place 15 and 16
August 2016.
o Area 25 exhibits well established vegetation. Due to topsanding with too thick of an
A horizon, moisture was not retained well and revegetation proved difficult. An
Application of about 9 inches of B horizon aleviated the problem. A preemergent will
be applied in fall 2016 for controlling Bromus tectorum, (cheat grass) a C class weed.
Lactuca serriola, (prickly lettuce) will also be treated.
o Area 33 was planted in fall of 2015. Grasses appeared to be establishing as seen by the
marked rows in photo 8A. Sunflowers were also prevalent. Some weeds such as Bromus
tectorum, and Lactuca serriola were observed. Noted evidence of surface runoff,
however no offsite impacts were evident at time of inspection.
Photo 8: Area 33.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 7 of 9
Photo 8A (left): Area 33 showins the rows
of grasses seeded in autumn of 2015.
