Treatment of these features includes filling gullies with branches and instal ling straw bales or
wattles. Also, some sediment traps required maintenance. These items are on the operator’s maintenance list for
dispatching as soon as possible. Silt fences having been recently repaired appeared to function adequately, photo s
4A and 4B.
The slurry injection system is currently not in use. However, recent discussion with DRMS for mitigating
excessive pond volumes may authorize the utilization of this system to reduce water volumes in Ponds 7 and 8.
Pond 8 had a flowmeter attached to its discharge mechanism in May 2016. The meter is scheduled for calibration.
The calibration process involves pumping for 5 days at the rate of 1000 gallons per minute, (GPM). Considerable
discharged from pond 8 occurred the week of 8 August 2016 causing such a tall and forceful plume of water
flowing from the pipe that the concrete casing was placed over the pipe opening to contain the plume. Also,
additional rock armoring and berming were added to prevent erosion of the channel to the concrete spillway.
Discussion of the gully forming at the belt portal (photo 8B, maintenance item #4) included constructing a sump
above, berming the area and armoring the gully. This work was thought to be able to begin within a month to
month and a half.

Photo 4A: Reworked silt fence BMP at the water tank and
associated wattle structure (photo 4B).

Photo 5: Newly installed discharge apparatus consisting of
flowmeter at pond 8.

Photo 4B:
