Hitch Rack Ranch Quarry, Transit Mix Concrete Co., File No. M-2016-010
Obiector Issues:
1. Impacts from blasting (structure damage,gw, noise, dust, vibration, access, safety, rockfalls,
landslides,flyrock, well damage)
Wekamp,S. Mulliken, G.Sovaiko,M.Spoor,B.Hughes,J Kline)
2. Impacts to surface water/creeks (increased flooding, landslides, erosion of stockpiles down-
gradient, diversion of water, hydrocarbon spills/leaks, erosion due to removal of vegetation,
dust contamination, operation will alter flow of runoff, LTC drains large basin to west&
needs to be able to handle large storm events—hard to do when landscape altered by
operation)
Brice,D.Brice,M.Harper,Joe Koscove,S. Koscove,Jack Koscove,M. Koscove)
3. Impacts to groundwater (water levels, water quality, metals, sediment, blasting chemicals,
herbicides, hydrocarbon spills or leaks, dust contamination, well contamination or complete
loss of water, neighborhood depends strictly on well water—already fragile system, wells
depend on quality of recharging surface water & highly susceptible to contamination, heavy
rains of 2014 caused many wells'water change to color of tea—despite fact that many of
wells receive water from >200'below surface, color change remained for several months, in
1996 experienced aftershock of earthquake & several wells in community had drastic
reduction in water production or had to be abandoned, Eagles Nest wells obtain water from
rock fractures—blasting may cause earth movement or quarrying may drain fractures &
impact water availability, Red Rock Valley Estates Water District area located just north of
proposed quarry area &provides water to 83 property owners —concerns over potential
impacts to water quality &physical supply within District's watershed)
