Thick waxy cuticle
Yellow Toadflax—Spray during flowering with chemicals and rates as for Dalmatian
(Doesn't work well in the fall except real late and plants"already browning.
Knagwgeds—Later in the summer when adult plants begin to show themselves. A plant
or two of any of the knapweed-species should not be that hard to deal with. Just dig out
individuals. All three are on the Transline and Tordon labels. Russian Knapweed,a
perennial, and the toughest, is on the Telar and Escort labels also. Make sure to bring
home flowering.plants and dispose of before seed dispersal
Canada Thistle--Deep rooted spreading perennial where relatively higher spray volumes
are most effective. Clopyralid works very well in the earlier parts of the season.
Whereas, clopyralid's cousin Tordon is excellent in the fall(up until all the green has left
the plant)..
Bull Thistle--Extremely late blooming biennial, so there's plenty of time late in the
summer to dig out(or treat w/Escort).
Points to remember:
1. Weeds are opportunistic invaders. They will reoccur as long as land practices
favor them. Move toward management combinations that promote long lived
perennial cover plants, thus stabilizing the site, Avoid disturbances or reclaim
them rapidly to grasses.
2, Labels vary with regard to number of feet allowed as a buffer zone next to
standing water. The only tools for treatments made in,standing water are
mechanical controls, or chemicals carrying an aquatic label
3. Tree roots are especially sensitive to Tordon, particularly Lodgepole Pines and
Aspen. When treatments are made in areas where valuable woody plants occur,
Clopyralid or Plateau are good choices. Use extreme caution around valuable
ornamentals.
4. The addition of a good surfactant to most spray mixes improves performance by
breaking down the surface tension of water(making the water wetter- enhancing
coverage and penetration of the leaf.
Treetments tW cause bare ground(or any setbacks to the stable native cover mix)
are less effective than those that discriminate against invasive weeds and promote
perennials and gasses.
o.
