June 29, 2016 C-1981-018/Deserado Mine JRS <br /> <br /> <br />Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 8 <br />Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 4 <br /> <br /> Page 3 of 5 <br /> <br />- Mine water discharge pond SDH-3 contained water and was discharging to Red Wash at the time of the <br />inspection. The pond has recently failed its WET testing and has iron concentrations at or just below the CDPS <br />limits. Deserado has been working with WQCD to solve these problems. The pond embankments were well <br />vegetated and appeared to be stable. There were no erosional problems noted on the embankments. <br /> <br />PROCESSING WASTE/COAL MINE WASTE PILES – Rule 4.10 and 4.11 Drainage Control; Surface <br />Stabilization; Placement: <br />- Refuse Pile RP-5a was well compacted and stable at the time of the inspection. The pile was graded to allow for <br />positive drainage and no water was observed on the surface of the pile. There were several piles of uncompacted <br />refuse that were recently dumped on the pile. They will be compacted when there is enough refuse material to <br />start another lift. <br />- Refuse Pile RP-2/3/4 was well compacted and stable at the time of the inspection. The pile was graded to allow <br />for positive drainage and no water was observed on the surface of the pile. The operator was regrading rills on the <br />outslopes of the pile. <br />- Refuse Pile RP-1 is reclaimed. There was good vegetative cover on the pile and no erosional problems were <br />noted at the time of the inspection. <br /> <br />ROADS – Rule 4.03: Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3); Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4); Surfacing and Maintenance <br />4.03.1(5) and (6)/4.03.2(5) and (6); Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7): <br />- The mine entrance/access road is a paved road. This road was stable and in good condition. <br />- The haul road to the refuse pile was stable and well maintained at the time of the inspection. There was no <br />rutting and no erosional problems were noted. All of the ditches along the haul road appeared to be clean and <br />functioning as designed. <br /> <br /> <br />DOCUMENTS RECEIVED: None <br /> <br />This concludes the 29 June 2016 complete inspection report for the Deserado Mine. <br /> <br />
