August XX, 2016
To: Chronicle News
From: Ron Thompson
NEW ELK COAL
COMPANY
Please publish this Public Notice one time as soon as possible. Send invoice and proof of
publication to New Elk Coal Company, 12250 Highway 12,Weston, CO 81091.
PUBLIC NOTICE
New Elk Coal Company LLC, 12250 Highway 12, Weston, CO 81091, the operator of
the New Elk Mine, Permit number C-81-012, is filing for a technical revision to the New
Elk Mine Permit with the State of Colorado, Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety.
Permit C-81-012 renewal was approved by the Division on April 13, 2009. For filing
purposes, this technical revision application was deemed complete by the Division on
October 29, 2013.
The New Elk Mine is located approximately 7 miles west of Weston, Colorado on State
Hwy. 12, within Sections 13, 14, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28, TS33S, R68W.
These sections can be located on the USGS 7.5 minute Vigil and Weston quadrangle
maps. A total of 222.6 acres of surface disturbance from mining related activity is
covered by a Letter of Credit Bond and Cash Bond in the amount of $4,133,137.02.
The technical revision is for the temporary disposal of surface run-off contained in
sediment control ponds at the New Elk Mine. The ponds need to be dewatered to allow
sediment removal and restore the detention time for water flowing into the ponds to
properly settle suspended solids prior to discharge to the Purgatoire River. This water
will be pumped into the sealed and abandoned Allen Mine.
122250 Hwy 12 I PHONE (303) 300-8709
FAX ((719) 868-0044
Weston, CO 81091 E-MAIL ronthompson@newelkcoal.com
