(Ford, 1996)for varying recreational uses of the property. Source materials evaluated
include waste rock, tailings,and add discharges.
Primary recreational uses are expected to be hiking and mountain-biking along
established trails that will pass through the site. Other uses could include all-terrain
vehicle (ATV) travel and to a lesser degree camping. Designated camp sites are not
expected to be established within the IXURoyal Tiger site. However,it is possible that
incidental camping use could occur as part of the overall recreational nature of the
proposed land use.
Concentrations of lead and arsenic in the waste-rock samples exceed the RMC
benchmarks for AN drivers. Concentrations of arsenic,cadmium,and lead in waste-
rock samples exceed the RMC benchmarks for camping as well(CDPHE, 2002).
Concentrations of lead and arsenic in samples from the exposed fine-grained tailings at
the base of the former mill area exceed the RMC benchmarks for camping and ATV
drivers (CDPHE, 2002).
Concentrations of lead in the sample collected from the stream-side tailings are slightly
above the RMC benchmark for camping and ATV drivers (1,400 mg/kg compared to a
benchmark value of 1,000 mg/kg for both uses).
Concentrations of cadmium in the adit discharge are greater than the Maximum
Contaminant Level for drinking water promulgated under the Colorado Primary Drinking-
water Regulations(CDPHE,2002; CDPHE-WQCD, 1999). However,no use of this
water source for residential,potable water is contemplated. Metal concentrations in the
adit discharge, including cadmium, are below the RMC benchmarks for camping use
(CDPHE, 2002).
9. REMEDIATION PLAN
This section presents a work plan for remediation of the IXURoyal Tiger site. The work
plan is designed to address the environmental impacts and site risks identified during the
site assessment and streamlined risk evaluation.
9.1 Objectives
i
The objectives of the voluntary clean-up for the IXURoyal Tiger site include:
1. Minimize the environmental impacts of materials eroding from waste rock and
tailings;
2. Reduce the amount of metals entering the aquatic environment;
3. Erect a barrier to minimize human contact with materials exhibiting elevated
metals concentrations;
4. Maintain existing compliance with applicable water-quality standards in the Swan
River downstream of the site;and
5. Preserve the historic nature of the mining areas consistent with planned future
recreational land uses.
These objectives are consistent with those outlined in CDPHE(2002).
IXURoyal Tger%W lP Application y Page 22 of 33
