King Coal Mine (C-1981-035) TR -24 CDRMS Information Database Reconciliation
PR -08, the addition of the King II mine, approved June 15, 2006. However, this
11.0 acres number should have been increased by 12.6 acres with the approval of
TR -08, the expansion of the King I refuse pile, approved February 6, 1998. With
the addition of the TR -08 acreage of 12.6 acres, the Total Approved Disturbed
acreage at the King I mine should be 23.6 acres.
Map 2 shows the various correct acreages associated with the King I mine as a
total of 23.60 acres.
King II Mine
With the approval of PR -08, the construction of the King II mine facilities, the
CDRMS database shows and addition of 20 acres. All of the permit text and maps
submitted and approved in PR -08 cited the actual acreage to be 22.36 acres. The
acreage shown in the database should be corrected to 22.36 acres.
MR -33, the installation of a water pipeline on the north side of County Road 120,
approved March 31, 2011, is listed in the CDRMS database as 0.41 acres. All but
0.12 acres of the pipeline cross an area already within the 22.36 PR -08 Disturbed
acreage. Only 0.12 acres of the 0.41 acres listed should appear in the database.
TR -18, the installation of the same water pipeline on the south side of County
Road 120, approved May 5, 2011, shows 0.41 acres of additional disturbance.
This number is correct.
TR -22, the addition of 9 exploration drill hole sites, approved July 3, 2014, adds a
combined total disturbed area of the 9 sites of 2.1 acres. This acreage is correct
in the database, although it should be noted that, for geologic reasons, one of the
holes was never drilled and the site was not disturbed.
Map 3 shows the various correct acreages associated with the King II mine as a
total of 24.99 acres. The combined total disturbed area of both the King I and
King II mines (including the TR -22 drill sites) should, therefore, be 23.60 + 24.99 =
48.59 acres.
Please contact Tom Bird at 970.385.4528 x 6503 with questions or comments.
Sincerely,
Tom Bird
i
Manager of Coal Services
GCC Energy, LLC
