Two A -C-04 parcels are on State land. Vegetation in the westerly 1.8 acre parcel is primarily weedy
species (cheatgrass, thistle, tumble mustard). Surrounding vegetation is comprised of desirable species,
making this reclamation parcel more concerning because weeds could invade the surrounding undisturbed
areas. This parcel requires weed control and re -seeding efforts, and it should be withheld from Phase III
bond release. The 3.4 acre A -C-04 parcel just east of the parcel to be withheld still hosts a two -track road.
Vegetation in the area consists primarily of grasses, with relatively little species diversity. However, this
parcel does exhibit desirable rather than weedy species.
The A -C-05 parcel was in good condition. Vegetation was thick with desirable species including big sage.
Much of this area does not appear to have been heavily disturbed by mining activity due to well-
established woody vegetation. Mr. Roberts indicated that this was a former blasting magazine storage
area.
We concluded this inspection on the bond release block that encompasses D -AB -03, D -AB -04, and D -C-
04. Vegetation is healthy and diverse throughout the area. Several stock ponds are included within these
parcels. Deer Pond was holding water, but not discharging. No Name East #4 stock pond holding water,
but not discharging. No Name East #5 is silted in and was not holding water. No Name East #6 was
holding water and silting in. We did not locate No Name East #7 during this inspection. An unidentified
well was found near the mapped location of No Name East #7. The approximate location is 40° 26'
2.1900000000023567" N, 107° 35' 38.330000000016469" W. This well needs to be researched for
ownership, and to determine whether it needs to be sealed, prior to DRMS releasing the area from phase
III bond.
Conclusions:
Prior to proposing a decision on this bond release application, the unidentified well needs to be researched
to determine its ownership and whether it needs to be sealed. I also recommend removing the 1.8 acre A-
C -04 parcel from consideration for Phase III release due to noxious weed dominance. The remaining
448.4 acres proposed for bond release demonstrate achievement of Phase III bond release standards, and I
recommend approval of those portions of the bond release application package.
Page 12
