Jerry Schnabel, Bob Stabo
July 11, 2016
Page 11
the proposed monitoring wells and the location previously discussed for the monitoring wells
outside the productive fractured areas is difficult to access. For these reasons, Transit Mix is not
currently pursuing the monitoring wells outside of the fractured areas and will rely on the proposed
monitoring wells within those areas near the creeks to monitor ground water impacts.
Summary
After a review of the public notice comments and additional information in association with this
response, the available information continues to support the previous conclusion that both surface
and ground water systems will not be affected by the proposed quarry operations. The quarry
operations will not divert surface or ground water for use at the site and the mining of granite
material should not intercept ground water. Accordingly, there will be no impact to the quantity
of surface or ground water available to other users. Pollution and contamination permitting will
require actions by Transit Mix to protect both the surface and ground water from any effects from
the mining. Operations will follow State guidelines for blasting which will require protection of
nearby property and structures. It is also very unlikely that the proposed mining would cause flash
flooding that could impact other properties. Ground water monitoring, including the collection of
background data, will monitor actual effects of the mining on the local ground water systems and
help to protect the aquifers and neighboring wells.
