Name of Addressee
Page 2
Date
Section 2.05.6
1. Page 17 of the above referenced permit section refers to 1997 NOAA evaporation rates for, semi and
climates. Please clarify if the 1997 NOAA evaporation rate for, semi -arid climates is still applicable.
2. Page 19 of the above referenced permit section refers to effluent requirements specified in the NPDES
Permit. Please cite, in this paragraph where the NPDES Permit resides in the permit document.
3. Page 23 of the above referenced permit section refers to Figure 2.05.6(3)-1 and uses terminology (Dakota
Sandstone, low wall and dryland pasture) that does not appear on the figure. Please utilize the same
terminology on the figure as used in the discussion and update the figure as needed. Also, show on the
figure the direction of mining.
4. Please explain if NPDES 001 and SW -N3 were sampled for TDS and flow after 2000. Also, explain the
rational for, only averaging through the year 2000 if these monitoring sites have been sampled since 2000.
Section 4.05.4 (1-4) - Stream Channel Diversion and Channel Reconstruction
1. Please describe how the disturbance associated with the Meehan Draw crossing will be reclaimed when the
crossing structure is removed or cite the appropriate permit section with the reclamation plan.
Section 4.05.5 - Sediment Control Measures
1. Two irrigation systems are planned to be installed on the Garvey property to support the post -mining
land use. From Map 2.05.5-1 Post Mining Land Use, it appears that the irrigation tail water will be
directed to sediment ponds NHN-001 and NHN-002. Was the additional water from the irrigation
system considered in the SEDCAD modeling for the ditches and the ponds?
2. DRMS has not verified the SEDCAD provided in the PR -1 application because some of the adequacy
questions need clarifying. SEDCAD will be verified when the adequacy questions are answered.
Appendix 2.05.4(2)(e)-1
1. On Map 2.05.4(2)(e)-1 it shows the irrigated pasture having 9" risers located on the west and south
boundary of the 18.8 acres. If the sideroll direction of travel is north to south then only the western
boundary of the area needs risers. Are risers being installed on both the west and south boundaries of
the irrigated pasture?
2. Map 2.05.4(2)(e)-1 shows the risers for the irrigated pasture are 9" and the text on page 2 of Appendix
2.05.4(2)(e)-1 states the risers are 4". Please clarify the size of the risers for the 18.8 acre irrigated
pasture.
3. The text on page 2 of Appendix 2.05.4(2)(e)-1 states that 4" risers will be spaced at 120' intervals for
the side roll irrigation supply line. Many side roll irrigation systems use a set pattern of 50' intervals
(or 3 wheel rotations) and therefore have risers spaced along the supply line at approximately 50'-60'
intervals. Please clarify that the distance between the supply line risers of 120' is appropriate for this
application.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me at (303) 866-3567 ext. 8142.
